Apply to UConn’s Master of Science (MS) in Surgical Neurophysiology or the Graduate Certificate in Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring.

How to Apply

Prospective students apply for graduate study at UConn via the Graduate School’s online application system. For help with the application system, please contact the Graduate School at 860-486-3617 or gradadmissions@uconn.edu.

Key Dates

Application deadline: March 15, 2026

  • Application reviews begin December 1, 2025.
  • Applications are reviewed monthly on a rolling basis, starting December through the application deadline.

Start date: June 1, 2026 (Summer Session I)

  • Students complete the 12-week certificate program during summer 2026.
  • Students complete the one-year master’s program during the summer, fall, and spring semesters of the 2026-2027 academic year.

Application Requirements

Both the master’s and certificate programs are open to students from all academic backgrounds. Recommended majors include physiology, neuroscience, psychology, audiology, biomedical engineering, or other related fields in the health and life sciences.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Complete a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by May of the year you plan to begin the program.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

MS in Surgical Neurophysiology

Submit a personal statement that describes:

  • Your interest in pursuing a Master’s in Surgical Neurophysiology.
  • Your long-term academic and career goals.
  • Any formal or informal experiences you have had with neuromonitoring or related areas.

Upload Letters of Recommendation

Provide three letters of recommendation from individuals who can address your potential for success.

  • For applicants who have been in the workforce for an extended period of time, letters may come from professional contacts.
  • It is preferable to include at least one academic reference when possible.

Submit Your Application

Before submitting your application, please ensure that you have:

  • Completed all required sections of the application form.
  • Uploaded all necessary documents.
  • Paid the non-waivable, non-refundable $75 application fee.

Important Notes

  • The GRE is not required.
  • A Residence Affidavit and Immunization Records are required for all applicants.
  • Once admitted, students will be required to complete a background check and drug screen (approximately $110).
  • Due to clinical rotation locations, candidates need dependable transportation throughout the program. Hospitals vary across the state, and a few are located out of state; therefore, students should be willing to travel for clinical rotations.

Additional Information for International Students

International applicants are welcome to apply to both the master’s and graduate certificate programs.

  • This program may be eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) and the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
  • Admitted international students will work with UConn International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to request a Form I-20 after receiving an admission offer.
  • Please apply early, as visa processing can take several months. When requesting Form I-20, applicants must provide proof of financial ability to cover all educational and living expenses for the duration of the program.
  • International students are required to maintain full-time enrollment each semester.

Credential Evaluation Requirement

Effective Sept. 8, 2025, applicants submitting materials for summer 2026 or fall 2026 terms (and beyond) must include a third-party credential evaluation for all transcripts and degrees awarded by institutions outside the U.S.

Some programs have opted out of this requirement; however, our program requires a third-party credential evaluation. If your evaluation includes all verified transcripts and degree documentation, you do not need to upload separate transcripts or diplomas.
